CAPA Statements in Response to the US House of Representatives Hearing Regarding College Athlete Unionization

Former Northwestern quarterback and CAPA leader Kain Colter stated, “I want to thank Congressman George Miller and those who stood up for college athletes’ rights and exposed unjust NCAA rules during today’s hearing in the US House of Representatives.  They are part of a legacy that has fought to better civil rights for all Americans.”

CAPA President Ramogi Huma: “What was designed to instill fear of college athlete unionization backfired as today’s hearing focused primarily on highlighting abusive NCAA rules.  While a mentality exists among some that college athletes must forfeit their rights as a condition of playing NCAA sports, it’s a position that is destined to have the same fate as those who rationalized denying some Americans their civil rights.  We are on the right side of history.”
